2006 DCI World Championship Finals
Camp Randall Stadium - Madison, WI
Saturday, August 12, 2006

Welcome to the Santa Clara Vanguard live webcast of the 2006 DCI World Championships from Madison, WI. We'll be bringing you coverage of both the Vanguard and Vanguard Cadets all week long from the rehearsal field to the performance field and everything in between.

8/13/06 12:00 AM CT - Goodnight from Madison
Once again the City of Madison and Camp Randall Stadium played a great host to the DCI World Championships. This was an amazing year all around. So many tight races all season long, so many corps battling out to the very end.

Tonight was one for the ages. All of the performances were outstanding and everyone needs to be commended on all of their hard work.

Congratulations are in order for The Cavaliers who have won their 7th DCI World Championship title. "Dynasty" is the only word that comes to mind when you think of The Cavaliers of the past few years. They have won 5 out of the last 7 years. Simply amazing.

The Phantom Regiment drumline also deserves a huge congrats for winning the Fred Sanford High Percussion trophy - a first for them. Great job!

Before we sign off for the year, we also want to recognize The Academy, DCI Division II Champion and Impulse, DCI Division III Champion.

Thank you to all of the members, staff, volunteers and fans for making 2006 one of the best years in drum corps history.

Good night and travel home safe.

Wow - lots of corps switching places tonight. This is truly a night to remember.

8/12/06 11:02 PM CT - The corps have assembled on the field for retreat... scores should be coming very soon. This is going to be very interesting.

8/12/06 10:37 PM CT - Cavaliers show this evening was just amazing. There is so much detail in this show, it's ridiculous. The audience is fully entrenching in the "Machine" theme throughout the entire show. Tonight's performance was absolutely flawless.

8/12/06 10:15 PM CT - The Blue Devils were on fire tonight. They performed and maxed out their Godfather show to it's fullest potential. It will be very interesting to see if they can top the Cavaliers tonight. Good Job on a great season to our friends from the North.

8/12/06 9:30 PM CT - Cadets had a very strong performance this night as well. Their show this year is one that will be remembered for a long time - definately one for the history books.

8/12/06 9:19 PM CT - SCV = Awesome
SCV's show tonight was great. The corps was very well prepared, had a ton of energy and excitement and maxed out the show at the right time.

And, the "Vanguard" yell by the crowd was quite impressive!

Thanks SCV for a phenominal year!

8/12/06 8:53 PM CT - By their performance tonight, it is obvious that the Bluecoats weren't happy about being passed by Santa Clara last night. They had a great show.

Up next ladies and gentlemen .... the Santa Clara Vanguard!

Since you can't watch SCV's performance from home tonight, we just posted a video clip on the right of yesterday's run-through. Enjoy.

GO SCV!!

8/12/06 8:45 PM CT - Bluecoats are on the field now performing "Connexus."

Prior to the intermission, both Blue Knights and Carolina Crown put on very solid performances. To quote Steve Rondinero, this place is becoming electric!

8/12/06 8:40 PM CT - Just posted a video of the drumline parking lot warmup from Semifinals last night. Check it out on the right.

8/12/06 7:53 PM CT - The sun has set here in Madison and the stadium lights are beginning to have their effect on the corps. The glow of the uniforms and shine of the horns is awesome under the lights.

Looking to the left and right of the pressbox, we can see that the upper deck is filling out nicely. It's looking about 95% full.

SCV is in the middle of their warmups outside the stadium and Blue Knights are now taking the field. Just over an hour until show time.

8/12/06 7:45 PM CT - Boston Crusaders are performing "Cathedrals of the Mind" currently. There are 14 large half-archways on the field in sets of 2 facing each other creating a makeshift cathedral. So far tonight, all of the corps performances have been very strong.

8/12/06 7:26 PM CT - Hometown corps Madison Scouts are working their way through their 2006 program "Primal Forces." The corps looks very classy this year in their new uniforms; white tops and green pants are a definate reversal from years past.

8/12/06 7:13 PM CT - Glassmen are on the field now. They have had a strong year with "Beethoven: Mastery & Maddness" and are ending it with a very strong show tonight.

8/12/06 6:58 PM CT - Spirit of JSU just finished their performance of "Old, New, Borrowed and Blue." They were jamming tonight and the crowded really appreciated it.

8/12/06 6:44 PM CT - The first corps of the evening, Spirit of JSU, is entering the field.

8/12/06 6:41 PM CT - Congratulations to Bluecoats Director David Glascow on being voted DCI's Director of the Year!

8/12/06 6:38 PM CT - The National Anthem tonight was sung by the crowd with accompaniment by the Marine Drum & Bugle Corps.

8/12/06 6:28 PM CT - The entire crowd at Camp Randall Stadium is clapping along as the Marine Drum & Bugle Corps marches a company front straight towards them playing Stars and Stripes Forever.

8/12/06 6:16 PM CT - United States Marine Drum & Bugle Corps

8/12/06 6:00 PM CT - Let the show begin!
Good evening. We are now setup in the press box and the show is about to begin. DCI announcer, Dan Potter has just introduced the judges and corps for the evening.

The Marine Drum & Bugle Corps has made their way onto the field to perform an exhibition.

Also, we need to give a very special congratulations to our Vanguard Cadets as they finished off their season earlier today by placing 5th in the DCI Division II Finals with a score of 89.525.

8/12/06 10:37 AM CT - Finals Day!!
Good morning and welcome to a glorious day in Madison. The past 2 days have started with cloudy skies, but this morning both corps awoke to beautiful clear blue skies.

The Vanguard Cadets are just about to head to Camp Randall stadium to begin their Division II Finals warmup. They have had 2 excellent peformances this week and are ready to crank out one more this afternoon and keep their 5th place spot. Check out a small video of their hornline warmup from yesterday's Division II Semifinals.

The Vanguard members awoke this morning to a suprise breakfast with all of the parents that are in town. They have one more rehearsal block today to make sure everything is locked in for tonight. Slipping past the Bluecoats last night into 5th place has definately created a buzz around here and the corps is eager to see if they can pull the ol' switcheroo with The Cadets tonight. It should be a very excitied evening.

Stay tuned, we've got an exciting day ahead of us. Coverage will begin again tonight around 6:00pm from the pressbox for the Division I Finals.

Special thanks to our fine friends at DCI.org for helping make this webcast possible. If you haven't already, be sure to check out the DCI Season Pass.
